What is the Green Homes Grant?

The Government’s Green Homes Grant Voucher Scheme (GHGVS) provides vouchers to be spent on a range of energy-saving home improvements, including insulation, biomass boilers, ground and air source heat pumps and solar thermal hot water systems.

Vouchers are split into two categories:

£10,000 - Vouchers of up to £10,000 are available to those on low incomes and certain benefits and can be used to cover the total cost of installation.

£5,000 - A second general scheme is open to everybody and provides grants that cover two-thirds of installation, up to £5,000.

The scheme runs until March 31st 2021, by which time all installation work must be carried out.

Am I eligible for the Green Homes Grant?

Every household is eligible for a £5,000 voucher, which covers 2/3 of the cost of the energy-efficient improvements up to the £5,000 maximum. For example, if the roof insulation costs £600, the grant would cover £400, leaving you to contribute just £200, which you will quickly make back in the first 2 years of savings.

However, if you’re on a low income or claim certain benefits, you could get a voucher of up to £10,000 which covers the entire cost of improvements, without the requirement of a customer contribution.

How do I apply for a Green Homes Grant?

To apply for a Green Homes Grant all you have to do is fill out our easy online form. Our customer service team will then be in touch to discuss which voucher applies to you.

They will then arrange a convenient time for one of our heating and insulation experts to visit your home to make all the necessary checks. We’ll make sure that all of the paperwork is taken care of, so you can just look forward to a warmer and more efficient home.

Green Homes Grant Scheme FAQ's

Anyone can apply for Green Homes Grant Vouchers. The scheme is split into two parts, the first is available to everybody and covers two thirds of the cost, while the second is available to those on low incomes and certain benefits and covers the total cost.

If you’re a low-income earner on certain benefits you can claim vouchers that cover the total cost of installation up to £10,000. A more general scheme is open to everyone and provides vouchers covering two-thirds of the cost up to a £5,000 maximum.

For example, if loft insulation costs £300, the grant would cover £200, leaving you to contribute just £100, which you would quickly make back in less than a year of savings.

The scheme runs through to March 31, 2021, with all work needing to be completed before the deadline to qualify.
